You fall into mud. It is sticky and sucking and cloying and whether you stay still and try to remain calm or struggle and try to get out, you're sucked downward. You can't breathe, you can't (of course) see, and you can feel the crushing weight of earth on you. When the blackness becomes overwhelming, you find yourself somewhere else...

There are no chips. The edges aren't as flushly set as the others -- there's a slightly wider gap -- but nothing you can take hold of.

[Prods and taps both the edges and the actual surface of the mirror gently a few times, looking for anything that seems to indicate a weak point or an area that can be moved--while trying not to actually do any damage yet.]
